Peggy is a 15.2 16 year old chestnut mare who has been there and got the T-shirt but is absolutely not a novice ride and is a fairly classic chestnut mare.
I’m looking for a full loan home for her, where her main focus will be hunting, hacking/hunter trials. She is a fantastic hunter, perfect at meets, will go up front or walk at the back, loves jumping. Happy to come away from the field, perfect manners. Keen but not strong. She would make a brilliant whips horse. Hunting is her absolute forte and she loves it, and I simply don’t do enough of it for her. Before I bought her she had team chased to intermediate and was also on the winning hunt relay team at the royal Welsh. She loves her hunting but I feel due to her age and mileage she doesn’t want to be out jumping huge country several times a week.
Peggy has evented to BE100 but it’s not really her thing. She does not enjoy dressage and believes show jumping should be done at 100mph. She’s has a busy life and I don’t want her evented any more or really jumped competitively higher than 90cm. She is well schooled despite preferring the give the impression of a giraffe like ironing board, and whilst is well behaved the arena is not her idea of fun. So although I’m happy for her to be lightly schooled, I don’t want this to be her main job. Lunges beautifully.
She is a spicy forward going hack that can be very spooky, although this improves the more she is in work. Doesn’t buck, spin or rear but an odd looking blade of grass might eat her. Bombproof in the heaviest of traffic and with anything genuinely frightening, but will shoot sideways at a funny coloured leaf and it does get worse the faster you go. No different alone or in company. Never spooks hunting! However it is unpredictable, you can have rides where she’s super chilled, and if you put a child on her on the lead rein she’d be perfect!
Absolutely fantastic on the ground, total angel to handle and do anything with, lovely in the field with others, not mareish and can be turned out with anything and be trusted. Loads and stands on the box all day, her only quirk is that she will not travel in a trailer with another horse. It doesn’t give her enough room to spread and balance and she will literally fall down. Fine on her own or fine in a lorry with others and room to balance.
Few lumps and bumps, she’s had a busy old life, but is generally a sound tough little mare.
Homes will be vetted and loan agreement in place, max of 2 hours from blandford Dorset. Ideally no more than 10/11 stone max. She’s a very special little mare and I’d just really like to see her out enjoying what she does best and giving someone brilliant fun hunting. Unfortunately no tack as that’s shared with one of my others.
